The Trip Home: the final stretch(es)

so this
is Kansas

on top of the three hours
from Denver to the state line
(which looks exactly like this),
Kansas was another 6 hours
of this scenery until we hit
Kansas City.
beautiful in it's own right
but were we bored.

we had our sites set on this!

in it's original location
attached to a working gas station,
we arrived 30 minutes into their
morning opening
and we still waited 45 minutes in a line
that snaked through the building
and along the entire front.

and while good.......
it's not Memphis.
sliced brisket and meaty pork ribs,
tasty beans and potato salad too!

in case you didn't feel like waiting
for BBQ
directly across the street
is this

smart!

Missouri here we come!

and after driving across Illinois....

 BOOOOOOO!
we sped right through here
no stopping allowed!

Easter dinner
in Dayton!
with Danielle and the birthday boy,
Uncle John
and family
(thank you!)

Baltimore for crabs!

Washington, DC
where a special knock on a secret door
and Tenni's keen ability to find the hot-spots
and make a reservation (for drinks?!)
will get you a great cocktail!

and finally,
HOME!

he was done.

it only took
five days for the warm weather
catch up with us
but it's like we never left.
xoxoxoxo

have no idea if this formation has a name
it was only 100 ft from the highway
lonely in the field
it was HUGE!

Arches National Park

words cannot describe it
and photos don't do it any justice

notice the scale of the people
at the bottom of the photo

Our Last Meal in Santa Barbara

in the Public Market
 and it was awesome!

arugula salad
   with grapefruit vinaigrette

 gigli with fennel sausage
  wilted arugula
    creamy tomato sauce
     and plenty of garlic.
eyes roll back in your head delicious

        and it should be
          the chef and sous chef
            trained together in Florence

     and all of the pasta
is made right in front of you
